Thinking activities: Films of Post colonial studies.

◆Let's see about three films related to post colonial studies.

1) The Black Prince,
2) Midnight's children and,
3) The Reluctant Fundamental.

Screening of this three films related to the theme of post colombia studies. This films deeply connected with truth and hidden reality of our society.

◆Let's start with; Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie

Midnight's children in this novel Salman Rushdie wants to say about India's independence from the British Raj and it's huge effects on so many people. This movie gives us great opportunity to think and criticized at different types of levels. Some of the relationship like, love relationship, politics in relation, martia life and grand parents and their position etc in common way, but somehow we find how to people live and compromise in their life. For example Saleem's mother and his wife.

◆Saleem's mother and I wants to say she is Shiva's mother in reality.

◆Saleem and Parvati...

Movie start with protagonist character's voice, but I want to see when two baby born at a Bombay hospital it's midnight time and it's absolutely mysterious night for both, because 1947 was India's independent time. Here we can find some types of hybridises in two children's life into behavior, fear, ability, skin colour, and somehow they face uncomfortable in their own condition.

 ◆ Mystery of life...

Saleem and Shiva are two persons but, their parents accept as they are their own blood/ children, because they doesn't know about reality. Here I see politics in relationship, because reality is absolutely opposit according to their acceptance. It is deeply connected with Past and Present culture, society and political condition; it means like here two person's identities are different but I have a question, 'Can we define it's Truth and it's Hybridity?' Sometimes people live with their own narrow mentality but, can we give them right way to see ahead ? Of course, No because when we think about righteousness at that time I want to say one question, 'Why woman as always first target for it (?) To  say who is the father of the child? (For example:- Case with Saleem) When "A" & "O" this two different types of blood group are their at that time man was not satisfied to his own wife, So, here I find this different between mentality and narrowness. I have above questions because, this Midnight's children in relationships are highly problematic and tortuous. I find personal and national "authentication" through this movie, but somehow it's problematic and critical.

  ◆Symbol of Saleem's Nose:-

Yes, here super natural power clearly visible through Midnight's children, like Saleem, Shiva, Parvati and also through some other characters.
Magical power it means they are extra ordinary children. When we see what do you mean extra ordinary? It means, like "Intellectually against politics and religion" and boundaries, it's my understanding about this symbol.

   ◆  Mysterious history:-

Yes, of course it's mysterious story with super natural power. During the 1970 india was very poor and in kashmir- Indus valley civilization started. An Agra's  - Taj mahal 1941 during this time situation was symbolically connected.

     ◆ Cuspidor as a symbol:-

Starting to end was with the 'Spittoon' as a symbol. Movie give me opportunity to look some unspeakable and hidden picture through this symbool.

◆'Cuspidore' is connected with the memory and as well as amnesia.

●And 'Train' also connect with several things like, Culture, Class system, life style, religion, different languages etc. In India train is normally use in different types of symbool.

    ◆ Conclusion:-

    ● In this movi I find one interesting line, " The rich need to become poor and the Poor Rich."  (We find clearly in this movie, through Hybridity & misunderstanding.)

●One Another interesting word by protagonist like,

          " Children of midnight,

                            Or

              Midnight's children."

◆Deepa Mehta

     ● Deepa Mehta very well director and she look hidden side's or deeper way and give something extra ordinary in this movie. It's highly critical and for thinkers, its not only enjoy but also some new ways are open to think and take cross over actions.

● She gives us her best through this, like
1) Fire -1996,
2) Earth -1998,
3) Water -2005.
The Fire, Water and Earth are critically very well and deep work according to my point of view.

◆When this movie started at that time narrator means protagonist character says, "When I was born....." And then it's move on and became very interested for me. So it's well directed by her.

 (2) The black Prince

◆This movie is very different and relevant to post colonial studies. Because, The black prince is based on reality. One king from panjab and his name is Duleep singh, he was last king of Panjab.

    ◆ For further information about it;

 ● Skin color,
 ● Difference between white and black,
 ● Political power,
 ●Politics in relationship,
 ●Colonialism in british,
● Duleep Singh's Mind diverted,
●Different culturele concepts,
● Queen and her power etc.

(3) The Reluctant Fundamental.

The Reluctant Fundamental is about a young and very intelligent person, who is pakistani man. This  movie is based on the the novel and I find some critical, political, social, cultura, economical and industrial issues in this movie. How one intelligent person fulfill his dream in America and he get success step by step and at the end he was arrested by police and so on.

◆ In this movie I find thrilled and politics, its based on business life in America.

   🥀Reluctant means Un confirming.

Here I wrote some points about this movie like,

◆Patriotism,
◆Morality,
◆Procreation,
◆The American culture,
◆New York,
◆ Sexual relationship between Erica & Chengez,
◆ Identity,
◆Difference between two cultural context etc.

The novel consists of a dramatic monologue in which Changez recounts in detail his experience of the U.S. He talks about his life like at first he was student, then lecturer and then in international finance.

He tells how, dispute his success, he experienced doubts about his role in America and how powerful country works on the world's other countries.

Changez talk about political power and also how he fall in love with Erica ; who is beautiful and intelligent person. How she use his continuum and trust and then she despair to his trust.

As Changez finished his story, he accompanied the American back to his hotel room. The final scene was left open - ended with his clear confession about it. So it's my ideas on films of post colonial studies.

This is a children's literature and we all know please type of fantasy real world and in betweenT some type of logics and world way of solution some questions problems end some type of evil mind set and person like Voldemort.
